Chamber Goals
The Mission of the Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce is to support and represent those engaged in commerce, industry, agriculture, education, and services. The chamber provides programs and services that benefit its members and enhance the economic climate of the area.
Short-term Goals
1. Secure a permanent home for the Chamber in an income producing property that will provide partial funding for Chamber operations.
2. Continue to build membership base through identifying non-members and providing incentives to retain current membership.
3. Work with the Small Business Development Center to inventory available retail space.
4. Prepare a list of desired retail outlets, find or make space for them, go shopping here and/or in other locations to get them in business here.
5. Through use of promotions, drawings, contests, develop programs to increase customer traffic in the shopping district.
6. Work with high school and university students and student groups by developing programs to assist businesses in operating efficiently through the use of “green” technology, thus saving energy.
Long-term Goals
1. Investigate the possibility of an e-commerce program to market Shippensburg merchants on the World Wide Web. Not just “Shop Ship”, but “Sell Ship.”
2. Work tirelessly to promote local business to the surrounding area by providing business guidelines that will encourage shoppers from other communities to come to Shippensburg to enjoy the benefits provided by a dedicated business community.
3. Make business in Shippensburg an example for others to follow.
4. Work with other community minded organizations to continue programs such as those provided by the Garden Club, The Corn Festival Committee, D.O.I.T., and others.
